Nokia will soon be known as Microsoft Mobile

In a recently leaked memo to its suppliers, Nokia announced that “the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices.”

This rebranding is yet to be confirmed by both parties and still being considered as a rumor. Still, this rumor may not come as a surprise to some after Nokia’s shareholders approved a $7.2 billion Microsoft acquisition late last year.

In a separate press statement released on Sunday, Nokia is expecting that the deal will be closed on April 25 – the same date the Nokia Corporation will change to Microsoft Mobile.

Nokia started strong in the market before Apple and Samsung introduced smartphones. Nokia, being the underdog, continuously released smartphones operating in Windows Mobile probably the only manufacturer to do so. If the deal pushed through, will Nokia be a thing of the past? Is it really a good move to use Microsoft Mobile instead of retaining Nokia? We’ll all be updated before end of the month so stay tuned!
