Riders of the popular ride-sharing app Uber should now be celebrating as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the company’s application as a transportation network company (TNC), a new transport category that the agency created earlier this year for similar services.

In the past few days, LTFRB has been the subject of social media hate posts criticizing them of pressuring Uber in favor of traditional taxi operators and of Premium Taxi, said to be owned by the agency. However, on its recent media interviews, the agency emphasized that they are only after Uber’s compliance to the regulatory board.

LTFRB publicly announced that they will go after unregistered Uber vehicles starting August 21 if the company won’t be able to comply with the requirements for accreditation as TNC.

To make sure that their network of operators won’t be affected of LTFRB’s crackdown operation, Uber was able to finally submit their application for TNC on August 17. Today, LTFRB confirmed that Uber has been approved to legitimately operate as TNC in the country.
