Christmas is just around the corner. While most people are busy crossing every single items on their list for exchange gifts, some are also busy trying to get hold of your money via ATM skimming.

Reports recently emerged that depositors of Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) are being targeted of another round of ATM skimming.

Rappler reported earlier this week about the two separate incidents involving a BPI ATM in Rockwell Powerplant Mall in Makati City. The two victims said that they last used their cards in the said mall but on their next attempt to withdraw, they found out that their account has been withdrawn from a Bank of Commerce ATM.

ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol also reported a similar incident involving BPI account holders. Watch the report in the video below:

BPI already made their own investigations and has committed “to reimburse funds lost due to unauthorized withdrawals.”

Around the same time last year, BPI depositors were also targeted with the same modus operandi. The bank assured their clients that upgrade and improvement on security measures will be continuously implemented.

Earlier this year, BPI announced that they are planning to replace all their ATM cards to a more secured one – the Europay, MasterCard, and Visa (EMV) chip card by 2016.

The ATM card skimming is an international concern. While BPI is seemed to be locally targeted, other banks may fall victims too. The public is advised to be extra cautious when withdrawing money on ATM cards and even when using their cards when shopping on and offline.
