Good news! The pioneering car app service Uber is introducing a new and cheaper way to get to your destination in the metro. Named uberHOP, this allows riders to carpool with other Uber users within their specified route.
Silently launched on Wednesday, January 20, the uberHOP is initially available in Makati City and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) on weekdays (excluding non-working holidays) between 6-10AM and 4-9PM.
Compared to an uberX ride, uberHOP users may enjoy up to 70% of savings as the introductory flat rate is just P75!
According to Uber, they acknowledge the traffic condition in Metro Manila thus offering this newest service in the busiest part of the capital.
To book, users need to make sure that they have the updated Uber app where uberHOP is already available. As of this writing, it is not yet rolled out to all users. But, don’t worry, this may come in the next few days.
Only one ride request per Uber account is allowed so if you have a friend joining you, he better subscribe to the app first to enjoy the carpool service.
A maximum of 6 riders will share in a large vehicle enough to accommodate everyone in the carpool service. Riders will be advised to go to the designated pick-up spot and arrive on the specified time else you’ll be missing your ride.
While we are already enjoying the presence of the carpool app Tripda in the country, uberHOP will certainly popularize carpooling service considering the number of users that Uber currently has. Hopefully, its competitor GrabCar will follow the same to offer us commuters a variety of options.
