Pinoy LulzSec defaces DepEd Angeles City website on Election Day

In possibly the first online hacking incident relating to the on-going Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, Filipino blackhat group Pinoy LulzSec aired their message to the public by defacing yet another website of the Department of Education (DepEd), this time in Angeles City, Pampanga.

The hacker under the alias GrandFather led the defacement in DepEd Angeles City website. His message was short and simple, “ayusin niyo yung pagboto niyo” with mixed of profanity words.

As of this writing, the defaced website is still up. While currently, there are no indications that their database was breached, we couldn’t discount the fact that the group may do it next or may have already done it but has yet to release it.

As part of our internal process, we will have this reported to the concerned agency (DepEd), the National Privacy Commission to further investigate if there was no data breach involved and with 8888 for complaint against their IT staff who might’ve overlooked the security measures on their website.

Update:

05/15/2018:

Apart from DepEd Angeles, other local websites were also defaced by GrandFather under his #OpSKTite activity. All sites carried the same statement from that of DepEd Angeles with the exception of the image banner that now shows a penis. As of this writing, all sites are still showing the defaced content.

We were able to report this to 8888 under the Reference #: G20180515-447-3. We also got a response from Public Assistance Action Center of DepEd that they have referred our report to their Data Protection Officer for appropriate action.
