Dubbed as the “ultimate mobile tool” for the upcoming 2013 mid-term elections and perhaps, if proven a success, for the future national polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the News and Current Affairs Division of ABS-CBN formed a partnership in educating the Filipino electorate through a mobile application.

“The Comelec app offers end-to-end voter experience: from the time a user inquires about his status as a registered voter, to the time he needs information about candidates, to the time we count votes,” said ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs head Ging Reyes.

The COMELEC Halalan 2013 mobile app has several features including the Voter Status Checker for the Filipinos to check the status of their registration, the Precinct Finder to locate the voter’s polling place, and the Halalan 101 which will provide important information about the elections.

The application will also offer information such as Candidates List for voters to know more about the personalities running for the national and local positions including party list organizations. There will also be the Election News which caters to updates from Comelec and ABS-CBNnews.com.

Maximizing the power of the mobile app is the BMPM Report Feature from the pioneering Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo citizen journalism of the Kapamilya network. With this, patrolers can submit reports such as photos and videos of all election-related incidents.

Another feature of the app is the Election Results section wherein users will be provided with updates of the on-going tabulation from sources authorized by Comelec.

“Given all this, it is probably not an exaggeration to think that this effort is a landmark in our election history. For the first time, election-related information is right at citizens’ fingertips,” Reyes said.

“With this in mind, we thank the Commission on Elections, its leaders and its indefatigable men and women, for this opportunity to help and be a partner,” she added.

The Comelec Halalan 2013 mobile application is available for download on iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
