In addition to the existing working closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in Metro Manila, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) started using 100 more high-definition (HD) candid cameras today, March 18.

According to MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino, the efforts of adding more CCTV cameras with valuable features is to catch colorums, or public utility vehicles (PUVs) that do not have a franchise, plying in Metro Manila adding to the heavily volumed streets specially during rush hours.

The newly installed HD candid cameras has face detect feature that can help recognize facial features for wanted criminals. It can also recognize plate numbers and calculate vehicle’s speed.

These new cameras were distributed to Divisoria in Manila, Baclaran in southern Metro Manila; the Ninoy Aquino International Airport area; Taft Avenue; Commonwealth Avenue; and Katipunan Avenue.
