RIM might offer Paypal-like money service via BBM

While most may agree that BlackBerry is already dead, in some parts of the world, the company is still enjoying a huge market. With the possibility to expand the company’s service, Research in Motion’s (RIM) CEO is optimistic about offering an e-commerce service integrated with the current BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).

RIM’s CEO Thorsten Heins gave a hint that the company may soon offer a Paypal-like money service that may provide money transfer option as an addition to the existing BlackBerry Messenger platform.

Obviously, RIM is still tapping its biggest asset, BBM, to potentially market the handset back to the competition.

As quoted by BlackBerry Empire, Heins said “Think about transacting money. This is one element in which you could have a huge BBM population in Indonesia transferring money from one partner to another,” he said. Heins added that the heavy usage of BBM by BlackBerry smartphone owners in Indonesia made the country “so important” as an “innovation ground for BBM”.

This news is still unofficial. This plan may be rolled out first in Indonesia where BlackBerry is such a hit. 

According to reports, Indonesian BBM users make use of the service to buy and sell goods which sparks the idea of creating an e-commerce service associated to BBM.
