Dasmarinas City Representative Elpidio Barzaga Jr. urges the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to require all passenger buses install closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras for safety road trips.

This is another great move if the authorities will have this one pushed through. Citing several bus-related incidents including the August 2010 hostage crisis involving Hong Kong nationals and the recent EDSA Buendia bus bombing – these could easily be solved if CCTV cameras were available.

This move may add burden to bus operators for the said CCTV installations will cost around Php 15,000 to Php 30,000 per unit. But, according to Rep. Barzaga, “This is nothing much, considering the cameras can help save human lives and protect the assets of operators: their vehicles.
