The Philippines third largest telco expanded its Blackberry offering to its prepaid subscribers with the introduction of Unli-BB. This unlimited Blackberry service became available in the market since August 31, 2012, Friday.

Similar to its other offerings, Sun Cellular’s UnliBB service is by far the cheapest in the market. The telco offers UnliBB for PhP50 good for one day while for those who want a longer subscription may opt to the PhP250 one week subscription. Smart, Sun’s sister company, offers the same service at PhP50, PhP300 and PhP599 denominations for one day, one week and one month subscription respectively. On the other hand, Ayala-led Globe Telecom has PhP50, PhP220 and PhP599 for daily, weekly (five-day) and monthly registrations respectively.

For Sun’s growing prepaid subscriber base, you may convert your regular load to the one-day UnliBB service by texting BB1DAY or BB7DAY for the seven-day subscription. Both keywords should be sent to 386.

While Sun’s initial UnliBB service may be competitively priced for the prepaid market, the service may still lack the same quality with that of the leading networks. Current postpaid subscribers of the said network are constantly getting connection issues. With the expansion of the service to a wider prepaid audience, Sun’s Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) may not be able to handle a bigger volume of users. This is the network’s biggest challenge.

With PLDT’s acquisition of Sun Cellular, the company is continuously working in developing its current infrastructures and in associating and integrating it with the current PLDT-Smart setup to make a wider coverage in the country. As to when would it make a solid and less signal disruptions for Sun Cellular, no one could really tell.
