Time.com named Makati City as the “selfiest” city in the world based on a research made using the photo-sharing app Instagram.

In an article published this Monday, Time released the top 100 cities in the world that are popular to selfie takers. “Selfie” is the term coined to self-portrait shots taken using any hand-held digital camera or smartphone. Instagram is the most common photo-sharing app where selfie users are posting their shots. The app also has a location-based feature that can track where the photos are taken.

Aside from Makati City which is known to be the financial capital of the Philippines and recorded 258 selfie takers per 100,000 people in the study, the Queen City of the South Cebu City placed 9th with 99 selfie takers and Quezon City  is 59th with 44 selfie takers.

Other selfie-rich cities are Manhattan, Miami and Anaheim in the US and Petaling Jaya in Malaysia.

The Time article was based on photos downloaded from the Instagram API from January 28-February 2, 2014 and March 3-7, 2014. A total of 402,197 photos with geographical locations tagged as “selfie” in Instagram was gathered on a 24-hour period within the given dates.
