Social network giant Twitter silently launched a new feature called Profiles Directory that will list all public profiles for a more reliable and easier search capability in Google, Bing or Yahoo.

According to news reports, this attempt is to make Twitter more SEO-friendly as this step will make the social network’s content-based search results crawlable.

Company-wise, a Twitter spokesperson said that they launched the user directory “to help people find the accounts they’re looking for with various search engines.”

Twitter did not officially launch this user directory so not all may be aware that there’s such a move in the company. The said directory link can be accessed if you’re logged out from Twitter. It’s on the bottom right hand of the Twitter log in page. For those who are logged in, you may go directly to this link.

Anyway, this Twitter Profiles Directory has all the Twitter public profile accounts arranged alphabetically from letters A to Z. Accounts using non-Latin characters are also arranged properly on the said directory. By the way, the way the list is arranged is sorted through the name in the Twitter account profile, not the username itself.

The directory also shows accounts tagged as private. Yes, these accounts are still searchable in the directory. However, as the private accounts are indeed protected, searchers can not view the account’s tweets.

As to when will Twitter officially launch this new feature, we’re still not sure. The company may still be working at the back end to ensure the feature will be stable as soon as they made public announcement for it.
