A week before the Mobile World Congress wireless trade show in Barcelona, Spain, Visa and MasterCard announced separately that they are planning to introduce a new way of payment system that won’t require card holders to pull out their actual credit cards when purchasing at any retails stores.

Both Visa and MasterCard will be capitalizing on the latest wireless mobile technology called near-field communication (NFC) available on most Android smartphones and the remote storage capabilities feature of Android’s Kit Kat. A new Android feature called Host Card Emulation is also being considered.

Apple devices currently doesn’t offer same features as that of its counterpart with Android’s but NFC feature may be enabled if needed.

The move to contact-less payment using mobile phones is more secured and cheaper, according to studies. As such, we may be seeing a demand for more NFC-enabled gadgets in the near future.
