Research in Motion (RIM), the name behind the popular BlackBerry smartphones and tablets, announced through its Board of Directors that Thorsten Heins, a former Siemens executive before joining the company in 2007, is the new President and Chief Executive Officer. 

Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie both step down as co-CEOs and co-chairmen of the company due to investor pressure reports said.

BlackBerry lost to its competitors Apple and Google after the two successfully conquered the smartphone market easily by showcasing innovative technologies and applications on their own brands. BlackBerry, however, pushed to offer services more focused on corporate email services.
