GetGlue, the popular TV and movie social networking app will be rebranded as tvtag following the recent acquisition by i.TV completed last November 2013.
The big announcement was made available today when GetGlue sendout emails to Gluers about the upcoming rebranding.
New features are coming as well to the app which are more of app upgrades and recommendations from GetGlue users. Logo and color will also change from blue to orange.
GetGlue started as a social networking app for TV shows, movies, books and sports. It works similar to Foursquare but instead of checking in to locations, the app lets you check in to the specific TV show or movie that you’re watching, book that you’re reading or sport that you’re playing. Early last year, GetGlue dropped books as part of its featured checkin categories.
It is highly expected that the app will carryover histories of old check ins similar to what they did on book check ins.
Personally, I would like tvtag to have the integrated Foursquare feature back. Also, a complete Facebook integration should be available so Gluers can easily tag friends specially those that are not yet using the app.
There are around 4.5 million registered GetGlue users prior to the acquisition. The app is also available via Android, iOS, Windows Phone and web version.
