Rappler, “a social news network where stories inspire community engagement and digitally fueled actions for social change”, listed the top names per category that made waves on social media for 2012 for the first Social Media Awards.

Rappler is utilizing Facebook, the biggest social network, to make casting of votes for the awards possible. With the services from https://webchimpy.com site, a massive reach for this voting was made into a reality.

There are 9 categories: Best Pinoy Musician, Best Film, Best Pinoy Athlete, Best Book, Best Pinoy Celebrity, Best Youtube Video, Best Meme, LSS of the Year, and Best TV Show. Netizens need to cast their votes by liking and sharing the photos of their chosen nominees on Rappler’s Facebook album.

Nominees include mainstream artists Charice, Daniel Padilla, Elmo Magalona, Gloc 9, Julie Anne San Jose and Sarah Geronimo for Best Pinoy Musician.

For Best Film, Cinemalaya’s Ang Nawawala is competing with Hollywood’s Breaking Dawn 2, Argo, The Avengers, Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Hunger Games.

Boxers Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire are both listed in the Best Pinoy Athlete category along with Mark Caguioa, Phil Younghusband, Chieffy Caligdong, and Kiefer Ravena.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?, The Hunger Games, Fifty Shades of Grey and the controversial Juan Ponce Enrile: A Memoir made it to the nominees of the Best Book category.

As for the Best Pinoy Celebrities, Kapamiilya stars dominated the list including Vice Ganda, Bianca Gonzalez and Anne Curtis. Primetime drama mainstays such as John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Coco Martin, Aljur Abrenica and Angelica Panganiban are also nominated under this category.

Best YouTube Video include a clip that turned to be a part of a TV commercial (And I Am Telling You video of a random girl), Psy’s Gangnam Style, and Ramon Bautista’s Tales from the Friendzone.

Best Meme include nominees #Sinotto, the “Facundo” tweets, More Fun in the Philippines, and Thor Memes.

Justin Bieber’s Boyfriend, Call Me Maybe, JLo’s Dance Again, Maroon 5’s Payphone, and Psy’s Gangnam Style are just some of those songs that made it to the LSS of the Year category.

And for the Best TV Show, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and even the local primetime drama series One True Love, Walang Hanggan and Princess and I are all nominees of this category.
