The official Twitter account of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) for customer service has been hacked earlier today by Anonymous.
A tweet from the hacking group was posted saying “As the pandemic arises, Filipinos need fast internet to communicate with their loved ones. Do your job. The corrupt fear us, the honest support us, the heroic join us. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget . Expect us.”
Anonymous also managed to change the Twitter name from PLDT Cares to PLDT Doesn’t Care in an attempt to make a stand against the company.
Shortly after the account takeover, the hackers also tweeted warning PLDT’s competitor, Globe Telecom, that they are going after them as well.
The security incident happened at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic where almost everyone are at home and rely heavily on a good and stable internet connection.
PLDT was able to recover the Twitter account and deleted the hackers’ tweets about an hour after the incident.
