Smart, the country’s largest mobile service provider, will be hosting the biggest Clash of Clans tournament in the Philippines to date. With P2 million at stake, the tournament, dubbed as Philippine Clash 2015, is expected to gather all the best players of the said mobile game.

Clash of Clans is such a huge game in the Philippines for which Smart believes it’s high time to gather every single player for a friendly competition. If you want to play more addicting games like this, you can try sites like circus be.

“It is just about time we put together the country’s biggest COC tournament and provide a venue for players and fans alike to showcase their skills in the spirit of friendly competition,” said Mellissa Limcaoco, head of Smart’s Innovation and Product Development Group.

Smart teamed up with Philippine eSports Organization, Inquirer eSports, SM Cyberzone, and the Philippine Clash of Clans Battleground to make this possible. The network also invited representatives from COC’s developer, Supercell, and YouTube personalities Chief Pat and Galadon.

The competition is open to Smart prepaid and postpaid subscribers as well as Smart Bro users. The tournament will start with its elimination legs to be held in key cities around the country: Lipa City in Batangas, Davao, Cebu, Metro Manila and Baguio City. The final clash will be in October.

As of this writing, full mechanics of the competition as well as other details of the event are yet to be unveiled. Smart’s page for Philippine Clash 2015 also has limited information as of this moment. We’ll update you as soon as we have received further details of this exciting tournament.

Smart brings Wikipedia Zero to PH

 

Leading mobile operator, Smart Communications, launched Wikipedia Zero to bring free knowledge access to Filipinos.

Similar to other previous initiatives that brings free access to sites and apps such as Google, Facebook, Twitter and Waze, this new service offered by the network in partnership with Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organization that operates Wikipedia, won’t be billed against your plan or prepaid credits when accessed. The service will also be available on Smart’s sister companies Talk ‘N Text and Sun Cellular.

“We have always looked for and promoted ways to use technology and mobile communications to drive learning and consequently, development. Wikipedia Zero is relevant in a country where access to both computer terminals and Internet connectivity is still relatively low, but where almost everyone owns a cellphone. We are excited to bring Wikipedia Zero to the country and help create a way to make learning more accessible to millions of Filipinos,” said Ramon R. Isberto, head of Public Affairs at Smart.

Wikipedia, the world’s largest online encyclopedia, will now be available to Smart, Talk ‘N text and Sun Cellular’s 68.9 million total subscribers starting September 5 until February 5, 2015. Under Wikipedia Zero, subscribers have to access the site via m.wikipedia.org, zero.wikipedia.org or via their official apps available in iOS and Android devices.

Smart Communications and Sun Cellular, two of the Philippines’s largest telecommunications providers, partner with Waze, the social GPS navigation app, to bring awareness to drivers of the value of using the application when driving. Any time that a driver takes their eyes off of the road and/or their hands off of the wheel, it can cause a serious accident so just make sure that you’re still following distracted driving laws.

The strategic partnership include Smart subsidiary Voyager Innovations to help commercialize the Waze app to the largest and growing number of the Smart and Sun Cellular’s subscribers. The promotion of Waze usage will start with the pre-installation of the app to all applicable smartphones offered by the two networks both in postpaid and prepaid.

Waze uses GPS navigation technology similar to other navigation apps but what makes it social is that users can easily report traffic and road conditions which the app collates to provide accurate reports to other users. Through its partnership with the MVP-led mobile telcos, Waze users can depend with the network’s reliable data connection.

Waze Philippines map will also show logos of the brands Smart and Sun Cellular.

Smart launches first prepaid LTE SIM in the Philippines

Filipinos are now craving for mobile high speed Internet. While the country is currently enjoying a growing number of Long Term Evolution (LTE) sites, not all are capable of using it as local carriers initially offered the service to postpaid users. But, that is about to change as Smart just rolled out the new Smart LTE Prepaid available across the archipelago.

From now on, consumers won’t have to be tied up in a two-year (or more) contracts with the local telcos as the Smart LTE prepaid is now good to go. Globe, Smart’s direct competitor, will surely follow soon.

Filipinos who are using LTE-capable smartphones such as iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia V and Z, Nokia Lumia 920, Huawei Ascend D1 LTE and ZTE T82 will now be able to connect to the awesome speed of Smart’s LTE.

Existing Smart prepaid subscribers may be able to retain the same number by requesting to have their SIMs upgraded at any Smart Stores. Now, that’s good news to Smart’s loyal users!

To enjoy Smart LTE prepaid, you will first need to register to the service. Smart is offering LTE in three denominations:   1-day, 7-day and 30-day subscriptions. To register, just follow the syntax below:

PhP50 = 1 day unlimited LTE: Send LTE 50 to 2200
PhP299 = 7 days unlimited LTE: Send LTE 299 to 2200
PhP995 = 30 days unlimited LTE: Send LTE 995 to 2200

Smart LTE Prepaid is priced PhP40 for the micro-SIM pre-loaded with  P35 worth of All-network texts and PhP100 for the nano-SIM variant with P50 load.

There’s also a BRO LTE Prepaid SIM available but this variant is only good for data – no SMS and voice capability.

Smart now accepts Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders online with a promo

About a week after the rival network, Globe Telecom, up its pre-registration site for Samsung Galaxy S4, Smart finally came up with their version just today, April 27.

Smart’s pre-order website did not mention anything about the price of the unit in prepaid nor the postpaid plans where it will be available. However, tech blog Yugatech revealed that Samsung Galaxy S4 will be offered under Smart’s UnliData Plan 2000 for 30 months.

There’s good news for the early applicants as Smart will slash PhP500 off from their UnliData Plan 2000. Those who will be approved from April 27 to May 2 can avail of the Samsung Galaxy S4 for free under UnliData 1500 for 30 months.
