Microsoft may introduce a new web browser code-named ‘Spartan’ when launching Windows 10 come January 21st to eventually replace the two-decade-old Internet Explorer (IE).
According to reports, Spartan will have the same look and feel with that of the current leading browsers Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. The new browser will also support extensions and will be available across different devices – smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktops.
While Spartan will be a ‘lightweight’ browser according to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, IE will still be in Windows 10 alongside the new browser.
Also, ‘Spartan’ remains to be a code-name for now used to identify this new Microsoft browser but the company may launch it under a different name.
As for Spartan’s availability to other operating systems outside Windows, it’s still unclear whether Microsoft is planning to port Spartan to Android, iOS and other non-Windows OS’s though there could be a chance that they will.
