Starting today, Uber now accepts cash payments for riders in the Philippines. This recent announcement makes the country the fifth in the world and the second in Southeast Asia to allow cash as another form of payment when using Uber.
According to the general manager of Uber Philippines Lawrence Cua, “Having the option of paying with cash is really important for people in Metro Manila so this is an exciting experiment for us.”
This cash payments scheme is still under experiment though which means that not all riders will be able to see the cash payment option in the app as Uber is still testing it on certain groups and user preferences. However, this will be rolled out gradually to the rest of the riders in the succeeding weeks.
This is certainly good news to all commuters who are unable to take advantage of the convenience of Uber just because they don’t have credit cards to use.
“Uber riders in Manila already have access to reliable, convenient and safe transportation and this cash test opens up the Uber platform to even more people,” Cua added.
