After eight successful years online, the popular video-sharing site announced that YouTube is closing soon and that the whole thing about it is just a competition.
In a video posted today, YouTube said they have already gathered “film critics, prolific YouTube commenters, and YouTube celebrities” to form part of the panel of judges. They have also tapped their over 30,000 technicians to narrow down all the videos submitted on their site.
At midnight,YouTube will be shut down. All videos uploaded will be permanently deleted on their system. Come 2023, YouTube will ressurect with only one video uploaded – the winner of this so-called eight-year competition.
The winner, aside from getting his video uploaded solely in the return of YouTube a decade after, will get an MP3 player plus $500 stipend for his next creative project.
After closing Reader, YouTube is the next Google service to shut down this year.
But then again, today’s April Fool’s. Don’t take this seriously, you, YouTube fanatics! Remember those kids on “Charlie bit my finger” and “David After Dentist” videos? They are all back along with the others who rose to fame through YouTube. Have fun!
